From June 1st to the end of November, Floridians spend their time waiting. Waiting for Hurricanes. Daily life continues, but a close ear and eye are always checking the radio or television for the latest weather report. These past few years Florida and the Gulf Coast have not been very lucky. We were hit by the bullet and more than one hurricane bullet. This year nothing yet has happened, but it’s early, and no one can really know what Nature has in store for us. Do we prepare for the storm?
Lets see, I have plenty of bottled water, dry food, canned food, candles, a medical kit, a safe box, a portable generator, and my car filled. I know my evacuation route and everything is ready to be picked up out the yard. Wow! That’s quite a list and I’m sure I forgot something, but the one thing I have not forgotten is my Hand-Crank Radio
If you live near or on a coast line and survived a major storm, the you probably are not going to be caught with your guard down. We inlanders are the ones that get caught. We don’t realize the paths and strengths of major hurricanes. They can hit somewhere on the Atlantic side of Florida creating miles of destruction, exit into the Gulf of Mexico and keep on going.
The best defense is an accurate forecast that will give you time to get out of the way. Today we have a very good Hurricane Center that gives a landfall prediction within 24 hours. That really helps save lives but sometime we can’t leave our homes, or property and we need good reliable equipment. I have found a great place for all my emergency storm needs.
